What MPLS delivers in a multi-site network

MPLS is a private routed network across all your sites. The carrier owns reachability between them, traffic never crosses the public internet, and each traffic class can be treated on its own — so voice and ERP do not compete for bandwidth with a backup job.

What you trade away is control. Compared with layer 2, you hand routing decisions to the carrier. Compared with internet plus VPN, you pay more and get predictable behaviour.

MPLS, layer 2 or internet with VPN: which one?

MPLS when there are many sites, traffic between them matters, and you want one party accountable for reachability.
Layer 2 when two or three sites need to behave as a single network and routing stays with you — replication, clustering, live migration.
Internet with VPN when cost dominates and variable performance between sites is acceptable.

Most real networks mix all three: layer 2 between data centres, MPLS or internet out to the branches, according to what each one actually does.

What should you specify?

Traffic classes and what happens to each one under congestion. A QoS policy nobody defined is a policy that does nothing.
SLA between sites — latency, loss and jitter, not just availability at each end.
How internet egress works: centralised at one site, or local at each. That decision changes both the security model and the bill.
Which sites get a second path, and whether it is physically diverse.

What is the Brazilian part of the circuit?
